Born and bred in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia), Chris Bassett started out as a bit of a rebel. Born in Cheverly, MD and raised in Alexandria, VA, Chris grew up in a working class family led by his father and step mom. Chris and his two younger brothers were never short on their share of mischief.
Growing up in their household, Chris’ father always experimented with new recipes, trying them out on his family. Chris credits his father’s penchant for culinary creativity and willingness to try different kinds of food as his first real introduction to the world of cooking. Upon graduation, Chris, still marching to his own drum was told by his father that he needed to get a job and pay rent or go to the military. Neither sounded appetizing so Chris moved to Florida where his mother lived and began working at the South Seas Resort on Captiva Island. Thus began the 25+ year journey in the food, beverage and hospitality industry that would take him from top honors at the esteemed Le Cordon Bleu in Miami, to a host of leadership positions as curator of several beverage programs, General Manager, Food and Beverage Director, and now, Owner, GM and Beverage Director at barbeque giant Myron Mixon’s Pitmaster Barbeque in Alexandria, VA.
Chris has proudly created, directed, and implemented cocktail and food programs throughout the DMV area and enjoys the hands on nature that his industry provides. He thrives on the challenging and the ever-evolving, high-pressure arena that the food and beverage industry can bring.
While working his way through the ranks in DC, Chris met his friend turned wife, Candiace Dillard Bassett while making his rounds at work one day. Remaining friends over several years, they fell in love after one long date and never looked back; tying the knot in August of 2018 at the Andrew Mellon Auditorium in Washington, DC.
Their lives took a drastically interesting turn in 2017 when Chris and Candiace joined the third season of Bravo TV’s The Real Housewives of Potomac — Candiace as the feisty, firey former Miss United States who wasn’t afraid to speak her mind – Chris, as the even-keeled voice of reason whose sound advice would thwart many a reality TV crisis.
Throughout his journey, Chris has never stopped thinking big – always staying true to his love of the industry. Officially launched in January, 2020 after years of planning and testing, Chris presented to the world CBasswithDill Catering – a play on his wedding hashtag – and the perfect introduction to this chef’s focus of full service catering, cooking classes, meal prep services and the private chef experience. His latest endeavor as caterer/chef and brand ambassador for the innovative and forward thinking catering giant, Hungry, has thrown him chef knives first into catering and working private events. Never one to shy away from a challenge, Chris also has an impending cookbook on the horizon, Cooking With Spirit, a mash up of holiday and dinner party fare paired with your soon-to-be favorite cocktails.
When he’s not making waves in the kitchen or working on his cookbook, you can find Chris on the soccer field stopping shots as a goalie or spending time with his wife and kids
